Comparing the present situation with that of thirty years ago, as described in "Traffic in Towns", increased car ownership is seen again to be creating as many problems, traffic congestion , pollution , accidents and expense, as the benefits of freedom gained. Seeing the need for improvement, the author examines some of the complexities of the problem faced by planners, stresses the need for change and presents options for the future.
