English Heritage has announced its plans to shed its responsibility for 200 out of its total of 360 properties and to make up to 180 of its staff redundant. English Heritage has grouped its properties into three main categories, A B and C, and has plans to hand Category C sites consisting of medieval and prehistoric ruins over to local authority or private control. The proposals are contained in a 20 point strategy document "Managing England`s heritage: setting our priorities for the 1990s" launched by Chairman Jocelyn Stevens yesterday.
