In "Stirling v Bartlett" Outer House of Court of Session 11 August 1992, it was held that where a river formed a boundary and the owners of the land on either side by agreement altered the course of the river by excavating a channel, the case was one of `alluvio` rather than `avulsio` and the boundary followed the course of the river.
