In "R v Wandsworth LBC, ex parte Crooks and others", QBD 9 March 1995, it was held that a local authority could discharge its statutory duty to an unintentionally homeless person to secure suitable accommodation under Housing Act 1985 s65(2) by arranging for a private landlord to grant an assured shorthold tenancy coupled with a reasonable expectation of a renewal of the tenancy at the end of the fixed term.
