York CC has published a draft leaflet summarising archaeological policies and procedures as well as setting up a development advisory service. York is one of only five Areas of Archaeological Importance designated under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Areas Act 1979 Part II, the others being Canterbury, Chester, Exeter and Hereford.
