Discusses the implications for the property industry of the introduction of compulsory registration of contaminated land under Environmental Protection Act 1990 s143, due to come into effect from 1 April 1992. These include property blight, reduced land values, planning difficulties and the use of information by environmental groups. Gives examples of contaminative uses. There are plans to make the registers available for public inspection after next year. Since publication of this article, the plan to introduce the registers from 1 April has been postponed.
