In R v SoS for the Environment and another ex parte Sharkley and others CA 11 May 1990, it was held that land was `required` by a planning authority for a purpose which it was necessary to achieve in the interests of proper planning and could therefore be compulsorily purchased under Town and Country Planning Act 1971 s112 .
