Building statistics in western Germany show a marked increase in activity, caused by commercial investment in the eastern states, immigrants` housing schemes, and restoration projects in historic cities such as Dresden and Leipzig. Road resurfacing programmes and the government`s forthcoming move to Berlin have added to the demand.
