Reviews the legislation aimed at regulating estate agency, including the Estate Agents Act 1979 and its attendant Orders, the Consumer Protection Act 1987 and the Property Misdescriptions Act 1991. Tracing the history of these measures, the article concludes that the law is weak and the public would be better served by a re-enactment of the Trade Descriptions Act.
