In P and A Swift Investments (a firm) v Combined English Stores Group plc HL 7 July 1988 it was held that where a surety guaranteed by covenant that a tenant would pay the rent , in the event of the tenant`s default, the assignee of the reversion on the lease could recover the unpaid rent from the surety.
