A report by Cambridge Econometrics "European regional prospects" examines medium-term prospects for the EC and Austria at a detailed regional level with specific analysis of future economic activity in 32 major cities. It concludes that economic integration and the development of links with the east will favour growth in an `Alpine Arc` including southern Germany, Austria and Northern Italy, while convergence of national levels of economic prosperity in Europe will be accompanied by divergence between groups of regions that cross national boundaries.
