Challenges the SoS Environment`s policy for new households to be concentrated on existing urban sites following a planning inspector`s approval for the release of 1100 acres of green belt under the Newcastle unitary development plan. The House Builders Federation reckons that the threat to rural England from housing growth is exaggerated. Predicts that there is insufficient brown land to meet housing needs; extra car parking would have to be provided for city dwellers.
