Examines the current investigation by the Office of Fair Trading into the building societies` mortgage valuation panels which is covering four main issues, are independent valuers and surveyors being unfairly treated by mortgage lenders; is their a conflict of interest between firms which are members of a single conglomerate selling a property for a vendor and providing finance and the necessary mortgage valuation for a purchaser; should housebuyers be restricted by lenders in their choice of valuer and are they being deterred from commissioning the fuller conditional report or survey.
