In D & F Estates Ltd and others v Church Commissioners for England and others , HL 14 July 1988, it was held that the cost of repair ing a defect in property, discovered before it had caused personal injury or damage to other property, was economic loss and therefore not recoverable in a negligence claim against the builder responsible for the defect.
