Research into the effect of the enterprise zone scheme on industrial rent concluded that rent levels inside the zone were higher than those on the periphery, owing to landlords expropriating approximately two-thirds of the rates exemption benefit. Since publication of those results, several requests have been received by the author for comment on freehold and long-leasehold values. (Journal abstract).
