This paper analyses the circumstances which led to the boom in Japanese overseas property investment activity in the late 1980s and explores the reasons why, after the USA and Australia, the UK was a major target for this investment. In addition, it considers the reasons for the subsequent sharp reversal in overseas investment activity and addresses the problems now facing the Japanese economy and its investing community.
