The process of providing motorists` services in the UK has always been dynamic and with little planning guidance provided. PPG13, first issued in 1988, set out a scale of distance, a minimum of 12 miles and a maximum of 25 miles between services. The authors of this article are undertaking a research project into motorists` service provision.
