The chairman of the Housebuilders Federation, at the annual BSA conference, called for the Government to extend mortgage interest tax relief for first time buyers and reconsider its policy on reducing income support funding for mortgage protection of unemployed homeowners. A DoE commissioned report found that only 13% off homeowners with mortgage arrears had sufficient private insurance cover.
