This paper examines the behaviour and needs of British shoppers who walk to shops. After an examination of existing published material, an empirical analysis of walking trips, based on research carried out in Cardiff is presented. The implications for local planning , particularly with regard to local shopping centres and convenience stores are discussed. References.
