Attempts to widen opportunities for building surveyors to practice within the EC in design work, under the Architects Directive have been thwarted by rejection of their qualifications by ARCUK . It is also suggested that building surveyors within the various professional bodies such as CIOB and RICS should join together to promote common interests. The Building Surveyors European conference in May also considered the opportunities for building surveyors
