At least 100,000 homes at affordable rent will have to be created every year until well into the 21st century to meet the needs of those living in substandard housing and the true cost of repairing the country`s unfit housing, £12.6bn, is more than four times higher than government estimates according to a report "Housing, homelessness and health" by the Nuffield Provincial Hospitals Trust.
