New law to save hedgerows

The Hedgerow Regulations 1997 (SI 1997: 1160) come into force on 1 June 1997. The new government plans to introduce tougher law to prevent destruction. Planning permission would need to be sought before uprooting. There are likely to be incentives to retain hedges.
