Building control in Birmingham has been re-named Building Consultancy and is promoting itself with a new attitude and image. This signifies a moveaway from the traditional `buildings police" image towards involvement in buildings at the design stage. This article reports on how this new style of local authority building control is being put into practice on the construction of the massive 120 million International Convention Centre .
