Last year`s demand for sand and gravel exceeded the DoE`s predictions for 2005 yet planning permission for excavation sites on land and under the seabed remains difficult with growing awareness of the effect on the environment. This article concentrates on East Anglia , which is rich in aggregates but where present sites only hold reserves for the next 6 years.
