Way out lighting
Webber, G.
Way out lighting - 1987 - Building Services 9(8) August 1987, 39-40(2) .
The BRE has recently completed an investigation into escape route lighting provided to enable occupants to evacuate a building quickly and safely when the normal power supply fails. They conducted an experimental study under three different uniform illumination conditions including one approximating to the British Standard recommending a minimum of 0.2 lux on the centre line of the floor of the escape route; results showed that for smoke free conditions the criteria of BS 5266 is reasonable for corridors but higher illuminance is needed for staircases.
