The ambiguous and often confusing MAFF approach to classifying the agricultural quality of restored land is causing the industry to rethink ideas on the restoration of sand and gravel workings. This article looks at how St Albans Sand and Gravel restored a former quarry into a nature reserve , a unique project which may become a model for future restoration programmes as the demand to conserve agricultural land diminishes.
