ChD 23 March 1998. Since 1988, a landlord to whom a request to assign or sub-let is made, must give written reasons within a reasonable time if he wishes to refuse, and will not be allowed later to rely on different reasons. The statutory tort remedy of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1988 was to be integrated into the contractual framework of the lease and had not established a parallel code.
