Following on from a previous article (See Abstract 37978), the author explains that digital mapping should be regarded by public authorities as only the first step in a corporate information technology strategy. Describes how such a strategy can be implemented by establishing a Geographical Information System, highlighting the problems that can arise and the advantages of seeking independent consultancy.
