Go-ahead for Channel rail link

The go-ahead has been given for the construction of a high-speed rail link between London and the Channel tunnel. The line which will be built in two stages, will cost £7.7bn and is expected to be completed by 2007. London & Continental Railways are to build the link with financial backing from Railtrack and a total subsidy commitment from the government of between £1.9bn and £2.2bn. Map included.
