Second of two articles which discussesthe use of traditional lime mortars in the repair, restoration and conservation of historic buildings. Considers the use of pure non-hydraulic slaked lime putties as the principal binder for all mortars and, addresses the mistaken belief that historic lime mortars were prepared in this manner and the general perception that hydraulic limes are similar in behaviour to modern cements.
