A National Farmers' Union survey carried out as part of the report Farming economy 1999 - routes to prosperity for UK agriculture indicates that 62% of farmers have diversified into other areas of business as a response to the economic crisis in the farming industry, and that some now receive almost all their incomes from non-agricultural sources.
