Caution urged on roads toll scheme

Caution urged on roads toll scheme - 1999 - Herald 27 May 1999, 5(1) .

Edinburgh is planning to introduce road tolls which could cost drivers £1 for access to the city centre. The scheme would form a joint bid with Copenhagen and Turin for European money, and the funds generated could be spent by the city on improving public transport for ten years, before the revenue reverted to central government. A pilot scheme could be in place by 2001, with a permanent system by 2004.
