Suspense story

Suspense story - 1999 - Estates Gazette (9925) 5 June 1999, 48(1) .

Discusses P&O Property Holdings Ltd v International Computers Ltd in which the issue was whether a rent suspension clause covered amounts payable by the tenant under the lease as additional rents in respect of insurance, service charge, repairs or otherwise. Inconsistencies in the definition of rent in the lease allowed the court to distinguish between rack-rent and other charges. The court refused to interpret the lease in a way that would mean that payment provisions acted capriciously.
