Leylandii conifers are to be sold with a government health warning after incidents of neighbourly disputes over the fast growing hedge. The DETR has published an advisory pamphlet about the risks of planting the hedge, which can create shade, dry the soil and affect buildings. Ministers are reluctant to impose planning regulations on growing Leylandii, and prefer to assess how the voluntary code will work.
