Local authorities are increasingly using auctions to dispose of their surplus property stock. Auctions are appealing because the process is quick, payment is in cash and prices can be better than those achieved at private treaty or tender. It is also an opportunity to sell more unusual stock such as public toilets, roads and grass verges.
