The Investment Property Forum has published a voluntary code of practice that sets out a standard format for investment houses to present their track record to clients. This is intended to bring property in line with other types of investment. Fund managers will have to include year-on-year total returns for the funds during every year they are under the managers' stewardship rather than cherry picking the best periods.
