Around 30 authorities around Britain have shown an interest in establishing 'home zones' in their areas, as part of a DETR project to set up 9 pilot projects across the country. Home zones are used in Holland as a way of giving pedestrians priority over cars and to encourage residents to use public transport or cycling for short journeys.
