The RICS Farmland Market Survey for the three months to June 1999 shows that the price of farmland is being protected from the agricultural recession by demand for country houses for urban buyers. The average price per hectare was £7010 (£2837/acre), up from £6375 (£2580/acre) in the first quarter of 1999.
