A growing divide between cities within regions is becoming apparent. Although Leeds and Sheffield are geographically close, Leeds has a much higher quality of life due to its growing financial services sector. Similarly, Portsmouth, Bristol and Swansea all have pockets of severe urban deprivation, whilst nearby cities are booming.
