With the launch of Landmark's 'Envirosearch' database homebuyers will be able to access environmental information to help identify potential contamination problems. This service coincides with the coming into force of the law requiring local authorities to identify contaminated sites. Clean-up costs will lie with the original contaminator, but if they are untraceable, the homeowner may be liable.
