The Countryside Agency's "State of the countryside 2000" claims that country dwellers are more worried about housing, jobs and transport than crime. The Rural Services Partnership, a coalition of England's 70 most rural authorities has called for a government funding formula to reflect problems caused by sparse populations and spread-out villages. http://www.countryside.gov.uk
