EcoHomes is a voluntary environmental rating system for houses from the BRE which awards certificates to new and renovated homes on a scale of 'pass' to 'excellent' to differentiate sustainable housing developments from others. It gives designers a way to show they are dealing with environmental issues. Guidance is available in the form of the "Green guide to housing specification" from the National House Builders Confederation. Available to be borrowed from the RICS Library.
