Joseph Rowntree Foundation research dispels the theory that overcrowding in southern England is caused by migration from the north. An analysis of population trends shows that people leaving London between 1991 and 1998 accounted for 50% of the growth, whilst migration from the north, Scotland and Northern Ireland only came to 8%.
