Housing market cooling

Housing market cooling - 2000 - Financial Times 21 September 2000, 4(1) .

Data reveals the housing market to be slowing. Lending figures from the Council of Mortgage Lenders reveal that gross mortgage lending was unchanged in August at £10.7bn. British Bankers' Association data shows a stronger rise in mortgage lending by £2.2bn in August compared with £1.9bn in August, but says the increase reflects consumers using loans secured against their property , rather than traditional loans, to finance spending.
