The British Construction Steelwork Association believes the need for fire protection in steel-framed buildings may soon be reduced, saving up to £400m. New building design guidelines "Fire safe design: a new approach to multi storey steel frame buildings" launched by the Steel Construction Institute, show designers how to remove fire protection around support beams of composite deck floors without risking safety.
