Greenwich council hopes to save the Dome from eventual demolition by requesting it become a listed building. The council argued that the Dome is representative of the area's regeneration and should remain a landmark. This may prove difficult under the English Heritage's current criteria, and could also hinder government attempts to sell the Dome.
