Looks at the professional rule that applies when a seller instructs a solicitor to deal simultaneously with two or more prospective buyers. The requirements are contained in Solicitors' Practice Rules 1990 rule 6A. This requires solicitors to inform all prospective buyers of the number of contracts that have been issued. There is no obligation to reveal the terms that have been negotiated, but the seller should clarify whether there is a genuine 'contract race'.
