A third form of legal estate, which aims to marry the advantages of freehold and leasehold tenure, has been proposed. In August the Lord Chancellor's Department and the DETR published a consultation paper and draft bill entitled - "Commonhold and Leasehold Reform". Looks at the essence of commonhold, and describes the essential elements of the commonhold proposals as they relate to commercial property. Suggests that to date the scope for applying commercial commonhold appears to be very limited.
