Examines the role of facilities managers in promoting energy efficiency in the workplace. Outlines the EU targets for energy consumption, and investigates whether improving efficiency can also be cost effective. Highlights the positive impact of modern, efficient technologies, such as lighting, and looks at research which proves a strong relationship exists between physical working environments and gains in individual and organisational productivity. Looks at waste management, and suggests that energy wastage reflects poorly on organisations. Concludes that investments in energy efficiency can encourage significant financial benefits in terms of productivity gains and improved employee relations.
