A 10-year study, the Countryside Survey 2000 from the NERC, shows that ecological decline has been reversed, with the quality of wildlife habitats improving, as incentives encourage people to look after and improve these habitats; however, there is still a decline in some areas such as downland, grassland, heath and bogs in Scotland and Northern Ireland.
